My name is Darla Lilleberg and I’m a Certified Health Coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. I am also a patient, having been diagnosed with hypothyroidism in 1996 and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis in 2009. When I was originally diagnosed with hypothyroidism I was young, in my early twenties. At that time I didn’t realize the full impact of what I was dealing with and it didn’t even occur to me to question taking the medication. I also had no idea how much diet and nutrition is linked to a person’s overall health.
In 2008 I became very fatigued and could barely get out of bed let alone function in my life. I decided I needed to take control so I began studying everything I could get my hands on to see if I could figure out what was going on with me. After reading a number of different books and studying several websites, I suspected that I was suffering from hashimoto’s disease. It was an uphill battle convincing my doctor to run the right tests and eventually my diagnosis was confirmed in February of 2009.
Once I was diagnosed I adopted the autoimmune paleo approach to my diet in order to calm down the inflammation. I learned everything I could about this disease and what I could do in terms of taking supplements, and changing my diet and lifestyle as I wanted to help myself have the best quality of life possible. Everything was changed forever once I discovered Hashimoto’s 411’s Facebook group. After a few short months of following Dr. Kharrazian’s protocol I began to have hope.
After strictly adhering to this protocol for three years most of my symptoms for the most part had subsided but there were a few lingering symptoms that required further research. In time I learned that my health was also being affected by toxic levels of mercury and lead. In the past couple of years, I have been extensively involved in addressing those issues and I’m finally able to say that I am no longer taking prescription thyroid medication that I had been taking for 17 years and have actually tamed the hashimoto’s beast into remission.
Over these past five years spent problem solving my health issues I have been actively participating in the 411 Facebook Group by sharing with others what has and hasn’t worked best for me. I’ve really enjoyed helping others navigate their journey to health. Since 2010, I have been helping other patients suffering from hashimoto’s and getting them started on a path back to wellness. Over the years I have given many of the members of the group feedback on their lab reports and providing recommendations for the most effective diets, doctors, exercise programs and supplements.
I encourage you to read the testimonials from patients I’ve helped over the years which are on my Testimonials web page. The most rewarding thing of all is when people reach out to me after they’ve achieved a healthy quality of life, thanking me for having such a positive role in their journey. Having become a Certified Health Coach has allowed me to continue being the change I want to see in the world. I’m fulfilling my purpose of helping those who are suffering in the same way that I once was.
I’m thrilled to be using my experience and education to work alongside others who are choosing healthier alternatives to manage their health and healing. As a dedicated Health Coach, I am committed to taking an active part in supporting your healthcare needs. I can help you peel back the layers of the onion and discover the best alternatives for you as we get you back on your road to recovery. Together, we can develop wellness goals mapping out the most efficient ways to achieve and sustain them. I look forward to working with you so that you too are able to pay it forward in whatever ways you can. The ripple effect can be massive and it all starts with helping one person at a time.
